Hyper Japan ~Cute and Colourful Lolita Fashion Show~ Videos

I was in the 'Cute and Colourful' lolita fashion show at Hyper Japan on the Saturday (23rd July) morning.  It was so much fun! I enjoyed every second of posing on stage, I surprised myself with how much I loved it as I was feeling a bit butterfly-stomach before I went on :')
The show was arranged by one of the London lolitas, Kyra, and I adored the selection of models and outfits she had gotten together for it; meeting the other girls beforehand I loved that they were all so different yet equally gorgeous!

We did the show in pairs, and at the end of the runway each pair had a different pose/theme to do. Kairi and I were a pair (of course! Can't be splitting the sparklemance up now XP ) and we had the pose of making guns with our fingers?? Hahaha maybe it was a juxtaposition of the cuteness??  We were the last pair so keep watching the video to see us, and enjoy all the gorgeous outfits! I'm in the blue with blonde hair and Kai is in pink with brown hair, I come on at the 4.20 mark :)

After the show Kai and I went to the press room to get free complimentary tea, as we hadn't had any breakfast yet ^^; Whilst there, the staff responsible for livestreaming events from the venue asked us if we would be on, and we had an impromptu 'interview' hehe! Kairi was so gigglyy! Aww :') The interview lady was nervous too as she's never done an interview before, but she was lovely, I think she pulled it off well! We talked about the show, our clothes, and getting ready in the morning.

Hope you enjoyed watching them!! Thank you to the respective people who uploaded these videos :3

Manchester MCM Expo

Manchester had its first ever MCM Expo on the 30th of July. Expos usually take place in London and the Midlands, so having one so close to where I live seemed like a great opportunity to go along and check it out.

MCM Expos are a celebration of movies, comics, games, anime, tv, etc. Being a fan of all these things, I have enjoyed myself at a number of MCM's previous events, and was interested in seeing what Manchester Expo would have to offer.

Sparklemance <3

I went to the event with my friends Kairi and Alice. And ran into other friends later on in the day. Everyone seems to know everyone else one way or another at these events xP It was really great catching up with people :33

I wore a lolita coordinate inspired by the character Reira from the anime NANA. For those of you who know or care, I was wearing the Vivienne Westwood lighter necklace too :D
Kairi wore old-school sweet lolita fashion by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright.
& Alice was cosplaying as the character Tetra from the Legend of Zelda game series.

Sundays are a time for...

Last Sunday went to Llandudno and had a very good day out with my parents. We rarely all go out together so it was really nice :')

First we went to the cinema to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. It was the second time for me. I wont spoiler anything here, but I'll just say that I got just as emotional the second time round but at very different points in the movie! I think it hit me more that the series has ended now T.T
Also! The trailers were BRILLIANT! New Batman and new Sherlock Holmes!! I rarely get excited at trailers but omg those movies!! Can't wait!!

Afterwards we had a yummy sunday roast at a cafe, then did some SHOPPING! I adore this activity in case you were wondering ;P

I bought...

*Big pink handbag to replace carrying lolita totes all the time. The shade of pink is perfect for Angelic Pretty dresses! From Store Twenty One.
*Flipflops with flowers and gems on them - couldn't resist the girlyness! XD From Store Twenty One.

Hyper Japan Day 1 - Friday

The second ever Hyper Japan was on last weekend at the Olympia 2 in London. It's an event that celebrates everything to do with Japanese culture, such as food, fashion, toys, games, technology, music, kimono, etc. Additionally this event was supporting Genki Giving where 10% of all tickets sold went to help post-tsunami and post-earthquake Japan.

I caught the train with my BFF KaiKai and we spent the entire event together :) On the Friday I wore Angelic Pretty's Sheep Garden OP in beigexwhite and Kai wore AP's Wonder Party in pink. We had so much fun meeting new and old friends alike :D

With the Tofu Cute shop girls! <3

Getting ready on the train - drinking coffee!

Meeting Alice At Shrewsbury

I met up with my good friend Alice at Shrewsbury a few weeks back. Alice is the first lolita I ever met in real life (she was wearing lilac Sugary Carnival), and my first best lolita friend - we hit it off right away!! Shrewsbury was the place we actually first met (in the train station toilets AHAHA) and have been back there for past loli meets, so it felt like it was about time we went for another visit! Shrewsbury is a really quaint town with old Tudor architecture everywhere and little cobble streets and alternative quirky indie clothes and gift stores. I hadn't seen Alice since February before we met up this time, so I was looking forward to it a lot :D Me and Alice have been friends for 2 years now, and even though she isn't into lolita as much as she used to be, we remain firm friends :3

We had a great chat and catch up over coffee and iced tea at a Costa and shared a lemon and poppy seed muffin <3 Then did lots of shopping!!  I did a lot of present shopping for friends' birthdays - Shrewsbury has so many cute gift stores with amazing finds!
And then for tea we both had a McDonald's Happy Meal - cos we're 'cool' like that ;P

Here is everything I aquired that day... xD
*pink sweets
*pink popcorn
*pink pocky
*chinese 5 spice
*pastel pink and blue hair elastics
*cute food stickers
*pink bath washy thing
*insect repellant

DOL Milky Planet JSK & Headbow Review

I recently bought a replica of the Milky Planet halter-neck JSK by Angelic Pretty. The replica is by Dream Of Lolita on Taobao.

This review will be comparing the differences between the replica and the original dress and my satisfaction with it.

Dress Fabric
Very thin, and a lemon yellow. Plenty of material in the skirt for a full petti underneath though. The material used for the collar of the replica feels and looks more like the material used for the entire original dress – much thicker and a nice canary pastel yellow.

The Print
I found the print is pretty accurate. My issues with it is mainly with the ice-creams; on the replica their texture doesn’t look at all cute and ice-creamy but crinkly and brain-like (haha!). My other issue with the print is that its colours are darker than the original, mainly using a dark-almost-red-pink instead of pastel pink, which makes the print seem a bit jarring.

The two following photos show the actual in-real-life colour of the dress...

The above photo has the replica on the left with the AP Special Set MP skirt on the right, so it is easy to see the difference of the fabric, the lace and the colours.

The Lace
Nice quality, not scratchy at all. The issue is that the ice-cream pattern looks more like a ‘braaaains!’ pattern fit for a zombie dress xP Points for quality, no points for design.

The Fit
Loads more uncomfortable than wearing brand even though the back is shirred, just doesn’t fit to my torso – waist and bust – at all well or seamlessly. A very awkward fit. I found the side zip to be poor as it kept getting stuck so I had to yank it to do it up – very annoying v.v  Apart from the zip, no issues with the actual construction of the dress though. The dress is sewn securely and well. I am also impressed with the scalloping detail of the hem – sewn very tidily.

The following pic is of the JSK worn with just a blouse... Please be aware the lighting in the bathroom I was in completely messes with the colours, so the colours in these aren't accurate :)

Can see the headbow in the above pic, as well as can see both the headbow and dress waist bow in the first picture at the top of this post :)

Headbow and the dress' bow at the waist. My MAIN disappointment. The construction on the bows is so bad. They are so sad and droopy T.T I can see that adding some interfacing will help enormously, though the lace on the bows looks so sad and keeps curling up. Maybe it would be best to get rid of the lace on the bows altogether.

A good effort at a Milky Planet replica. With some minor adjustments, mainly the bows, I feel like I have a casual loli dress that will look good on me. I am very happy with the print and, of course, the price!! Ahaha!! This dress costs only a fraction of the price of the original. I am very happy in that I can wear this dress out to more casual places like pubs or gigs or a mountain amble without worrying about it getting dirty or ruined. So leading on from this, I wouldn’t wear the dress to a tea party or feel it is a ‘special occasion dress’ as the quality and comfort just leave me feeling like this is a ‘casual daytime dress’ as opposed to some of my other (brand and offbrand) lolita dresses where I feel like a princess.

Additionally, I am happy in that I have been lusting after the original Angelic Pretty JSK since it came out, and now with its re-sale value so much higher than its initial retail price I just can’t see me ever being able to buy it, so purchasing a replica felt like my only option of owning some form of the beautiful ‘milky planet’ print, and so I went for it. ;)

Outfit Rundown:

JSK & Headbow - DOL
Blouse, Socks, Bag - AP
Bolero - Bodyline
Shoes - Montreal
Wrist-cuffs - BTSSB
Accessories - chocomint, 6% dokidoki, handmade

Be Pure, Be Vigilant, Behave

Richey Edwards

Today, February 1st, is the anniversary of when Richey Edwards, lyricist from Manic Street Preachers, disappeared in 1995. Never to be heard of again.

Richey was a huge and important part of my teenage life, what with constant changes and growing up. He influenced my reading taste and inspired me to read more and learn more (also inspired a weird stint as a poet when I was 17). He will always remain special to me, even though I am not obsessed with him anymore. Well, not as much anyway XD I still fangirl flail whenever I read/see/hear something about him in the media – it must be engrained in my brain!
So my first ever ‘new!blog’ post is dedicated to him <3

Mini Bio
From haha

‘Richard James Edwards (born 22 December 1967, presumed deceased c. 1 February 1995) was a rhythm guitarist and lyricist of the alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers, from Blackwood, Wales. He was known for his politicized and intellectual songwriting which, combined with an enigmatic and eloquent character, has assured him cult status. Edwards vanished on 1 February 1995. He was declared presumed deceased in November 2008. The ninth album by the Manic Street Preachers, Journal for Plague Lovers, which was released on 18 May 2009, is composed entirely of lyrics left behind by Edwards.’

"If you're hopelessly depressed like I was, then dressing up is just the ultimate escape. When I was young I just wanted to be noticed. Nothing could excite me except attention so I'd dress up as much as I could. Outrage and boredom just go hand in hand." ~Richey

Identify with this quote so much!! Wearing Lolita in my current predicament and situation is exactly THIS!

Richey's Disappearance

'Edwards disappeared on 1 February 1995, on the day when he and James Dean Bradfield were due to fly to the U.S. on a promotional tour. In the two weeks before his disappearance, Edwards withdrew £200 a day from his bank account, which totalled £2800 by the day of the scheduled flight. He checked out of the Embassy Hotel in Bayswater Road, London at seven in the morning, and then drove to his apartment in Cardiff, Wales. In the two weeks that followed he was apparently spotted in the Newport passport office, and the Newport bus station. On 7 February, Anthony Hatherhall, a taxi driver from Newport, supposedly picked up Edwards from the King's Hotel in Newport, and drove him around the valleys, including Blackwood (Edwards’ home as a child). The passenger got off at the Severn View service station near Aust and paid the £68 fare in cash.

On 14 February, Edwards' Vauxhall Cavalier received a parking ticket at the Severn View service station and on 17 February, the vehicle was reported as abandoned. Police discovered the battery to be flat, with evidence that the car had been lived in. Due to the service station's proximity to the Severn Bridge (which has been a renowned suicide location in the past) and Edwards' depressed state at the time, it was widely believed that he took his own life by jumping from the bridge. Many people who knew him, however, have said that he was never the type to contemplate suicide and he himself was quoted in 1994 as saying "In terms of the 'S' word, that does not enter my mind. And it never has done, in terms of an attempt. Because I am stronger than that. I might be a weak person, but I can take pain.".'

This is my favourite ever picture of Richey.
